PURCHASE, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to take on non-conference foe, Manhattanville in a doubleheader. The Valiants one-hit the Dolphins in game one, winning 8-0 and then scored four runs in the bottom of the 6th, to win game 2, 7-2.
Game one belonged to Manhattanville starting pitcher Alycia Feeney, who limited the Dolphins offense to one hit over 5 innings, while striking out three batters.
The lone CMSV hit came off the bat of
Mackenzie Heizer, who slapped a single up the middle on the first pitch of her at-bat in the top of the 4th.
In game two
Rachel Heizer took to the circle for the Mount, and was solid for the first 5 innings of her appearance. In the bottom of the third inning, she gave up a three-run home run to Alicia Marino, but other than that inning she held the Valients to four hits.
Trailing 3-0 entering the 6th, the Dolphins bats awoke. The Dolphins loaded the bases with one out for R. Heizer, who drew a walk, the third one of the inning, forcing in a run to make the score 3-1. The next batter,
Alanna Alioto-Reyes hit a sac fly to center to make the score 3-2, but that would be as close as the Dolphins would get.
Manhattanville added four more runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-2 lead and earn the sweep.
