Dolphins Split In Skyline DH vs. MSMC

Kochen delivers game-winning RBI single in 7th inning

WAPPINGERS, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Monday afternoon, traveling to the home of the Hudson Valley Renegades, to take on Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary's College in a doubleheader. The Knights rolled to a 15-2 win in game 1, but the Dolphins fought back and won game 2, 9-7.

In game one, the Dolphins pitching was roughed up by the Knights, to the tune of 14 earned runs and 14 hits. Three of the four Dolphin pitchers allowed at least three runs and four hits.

The Dolphins scored their first run in the top of the 2nd, thanks to two infield errors by MSMC. With two on and two outs, Brandon Pasquale reached on an error by the shortstop, which allowed James Valenti to score from third.

By the time the Dolphins scored their second run of the game, the game was out of reach. But in the top of the 7th, Zachary Saunders drove home Luis Alvarado with a single down the right field line to make the score 15-2.

In game two, the Dolphins once again found themselves behind early on, as at the end two innings, the Knights were ahead 5-0. But the bats awoke in the top of the 3rd, scoring six runs.

Matthew Nesensohn scored CMSV's first run of the day on a wild pitch, then two batters later, Kyle Tamburri drove home two more with an RBI double to deep right field cut the lead to 5-3 MSMC. With the bases loaded, Tamburri would score from third on a wild pitch to make it 5-4, then the next batter, Honorio Pena drove home two more to give the Dolphins a 6-5 lead.

CMSV starting pitcher Robert Negron surrendered 12 hits and was charged with seven earned runs in just 4.1 innings of work. Siddeeq Ali pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief, giving up 0 hits, 0 runs and only issuing one walk, to earn his 2nd win of the season.

With the game tied at 7-7 heading into the final inning, the Dolphins would score two in their half of the 7th. With runners on the corners and one out, Michael Kochen stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to left to put CMSV ahead 8-7, two batters later, Luis Castillo drove in another run to give the Dolphins a two run cushion.

After hitting the first batter of the inning, Ali was bailed out by the infield who turned a 6-6-3 double-play to erase the leadoff runner and help the Dolphins to the victory.
