Dolphins Sweep John Jay In Non-Conference DH

Thompson hurls shutout in G1, Offense explodes for 11 runs in 1st Inning of G2

NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Randall's Island to take on non-conference foe, John Jay College in a doubleheader. The Dolphins swept the Bloodhounds, winning game 1, 9-0, then taking game 2 by a score of 14-6. The two victories push the Mount to 14-8 on the 2017 season.

In game one, Hannah Thompson started in the circle and went the distance, hurling 5 innings of 3-hit ball. The freshman righty earned her second win of the season, while striking out five batters and issuing two walks.

After being held scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Mount offense broke out for six runs in the top of the second. The first three CMSV batters of the inning reached base, setting up Breeze-Lyn Morita, and the freshman delivered with a two-run single through the left side, allowing Meagan Earley and Sophia Herrera to score. After a pop up and walk, the bases once again were loaded, this time setting up Taylor Milata, who grounded into a fielders choice allowing Alexa Moley to score from third making the score 3-0. Thompson would come to bat, again with the bases loaded and the pitcher helped her own cause by clearing the bases with a single to left field, making the score 6-0.

The Mount added one run in each of the next three innings, two coming on sacrifice fly's in the 3rd and 5th and a solo home run for Rachel Heizer, her third of the season.

In game two, Dolphins starter Meagan Earley was spotted 11 runs before she took to the circle in the bottom of the 1st.

The offense sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring 11 runs on six hits and taking advantage of two John Jay errors.

The Bloodhounds would scratch runs across in the 1st and 3rd innings, but the Dolphins scored three runs in the 3rd inning, all coming via the long ball, as Deanna Nardi and Kierstyn Bourdeau both went deep.
