NEW HAVEN, CT - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Wednesday night, traveling to Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference doubleheader. The Falcons held the Dolphins to just five hits to take a 3-1 game one victory, then, in game two, the Falcons won the game on a walk-off sacrifice fly 5-4, dropping the CMSV record to 7-17 overall.
The Mount opened the scoring in game one, in the top of the 1st inning. Leadoff batter
Zachary Saunders, singled up the middle, then advanced to third after a groundout and wild pitch and would come home on an RBI single by
Honorio Pena to give CMSV a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons answered back in their half of the 1st, scoring the tying run on passed ball with two outs.
The Dolphins went hitless in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings, while the Falcons added runs in the 2nd and 5th innings.
Juan Brito took the loss, hits second of the season. The junior pitched into the 6th, going 5.2 innings allowing five hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out five batters.
In game two, the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead. But in the top of the 2nd,
Kyle Tamburi launched his second home run of the season to cut the lead in half.
AMC scored once again in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 4-2 lead.
The Dolphins tied the game in the top of the 6th inning, scoring two runs. Both of the Mount runs came via wild pitch as
Robert Negron and
Steven Hansen scored to tie the game at 4.
The game remained tied through the 9th inning and in the 10th the Falcons would win the game on a walk-off sacrifice fly to center field to take a 5-4 victory.
