#3 Dolphins Advance To Skyline Semifinals With Sweep Of Purchase

Cucullu & Skoblar lead with 11 kills each

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Volleyball team opened up play in the 2017 Skyline Conference Men's Volleyball Championships on Tuesday night, hosting no. 6-seed Purchase in a first round match-up. The Dolphins swept the Panthers, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-19) to advance to Thursday's semifinal round, where they will take on no. 2-seed Ramapo College.

The Dolphins were precise on their end, as the team combined to only commit 10 errors on 90 swings. They hit .348% over the three sets and smacked 44 kills, including a staggering 22 in the second set alone.

Tylcer Cucullu & Neven Skoblar led the Dolphins attack as each player smacked 11 kills on the evening. Scott Sawyer added seven kills and three total blocks. Setter Logan Dickover handed out 40 assists to go along with five digs and an ace.

The Mount controlled play in the first set, taking advantage of nine Panther errors. After Purchase pulled to within 3 at 12-9, the Dolphins scored the next six points, two of which came on booming Cucullu kills. Owen Smith would close out the set with a solo block giving the Mount a one set lead.

In the second set, it took awhile for the Dolphins to find their rhythm,.but things began to change after Purchase went ahead 9-8. After that won five of the next six points to take a 13-10 and would continue to ride their attackers, as the 22 of the Dolphins points came via kill during the set.

In the third, things look to be going the Dolphins way once again, as they took an early 13-6 lead, highlighted by another Smith solo block. Purchase would fight back and get to within 3 at 18-15 but they would get no closer as Cucullu closed down the match with a match clinching kill.

The Dolphins and Roadrunners played twice during the regular season, both times Ramapo came away victorious. CMSV looks to advance to their 1st Skyline Conference Finals since the 2009 season, the last time the Men's Volleyball team captured the Skyline Championship.
