MAHWAH, NJ - The CMSV Men's Volleyball advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship game, with a 4-set win over no. 2-seed Ramapo College, on Wednesday night. The no. 3-seed Dolphins avenged two losses to the Roadrunners during the regular season and advance to the Skyline Championship for the first time since 2009.
Tyler Cucullu led all players with 22 kills and .405 hitting percentage on 42 swings. He also led the way with 13 digs, while adding two total blocks.
Scott Sawyer came up huge as well, smashing down 14 kills and four total blocks.
Neven Skoblar hit .444% with eight kills and a team high six total blocks.
Logan Dickover had 49 of the Dolphins 51 aces to go along with eight digs.
CMSV controlled the first set, hitting an astounding .424% as a team, only committing two errors on 33 swings and would go onto win 25-23.
The second set was a battle. Late in the set, down two, the Dolphins would win three straight points to take a 21-20 lead forcing a Ramapo timeout. Once play resumed, the teams traded points until the game was tied 24-24. Cucullu would smash a kill for 25-24, the a bad set by the Roadrunners,clinched the 26-24 set victory.
After dropping the 3rd set, the Dolphins came back in the 4th and had another efficent set, hitting .400% as a team with only four errors. The Dolphins would take control going up 16-9 early on after a booming kill by Skoblar forced a Ramapo timeout. Once play resumed, the Dolphins attack was too much for the Roadrunners, as Cucullu and Skoblar would smash kills for points 23 and 24, then an attack error would clinch the win for CMSV.
The Dolphins move on to the Skyline Conference Championship for the first time since 2009, which is the last time the Men's Volleyball team won the Skyline title. The Dolphins will face-off against no. 1-seed Kean, the #17 team in the most recent AVCA poll. The Cougars defeated the Dolphins twice during the regular season, most recently on April 7th, as they swept the Dolphins.
