YAPHANK, NY - The CMSV Baseball team opened up the 2017 season on Tuesday night, taking on non-conference foe, CCNY at Baseball Haven on Long Island. The Dolphins had the offense going, as the team smacked 13 hits, while scoring 10 runs, downing the Beavers 10-7.
Siddeeq Ali struck out two in a 1-2-3 9th inning to earn the win for CMSV.
Four Mount starters smacked two hits each, with top-third of the Dolphins order all going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
CMSV came to life in first inning, scoring three runs off Beavers starter Cal Romano.
Matthew Nesensohn and
James Valenti led off with back-to-back singles, the
Honorio Pena smacked a double to left-center scoring Nesensohn. Two batters later,
Joshua Pacheco singled home Pena and Valenti, to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead.
The Beavers would score four in their half of the first inning, to take the lead 4-3.
Robert Negron came in, in relief of Dolphins starter
Evan Brown to start the 2nd. The senior right steadied the game, giving up two earned runs on four hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out six.
In the 3rd,
Michael Kochen would score on a Justin Vavaro single to tie the game at four. Then later in the 6th, CMSV would score three runs. Valenti delivered the big blow with a 3-run double to right, giving his side a 7-4 lead.
The Beavers would score one run in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to tie the game but in the 9th the first three batters would reach, then with one out and the bases loaded, Pacheco singled to left, scoring Pena and Valenti to give a 9-7 lead.
Ali would come in for the 9th and strike out the first and third batters of the inning to secure the Dolphins first victory of the season.
