NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action on Thursday afternoon, hosting Baruch College in a non-conference doubleheader at Randall's Island Park. The Dolphins won both games, 8-1 in game one and 5-0 (Final 6) in game two to improve to 8-4 on the season, having won five of their last six games.
Meagan Earley started in the circle for the Mount and the freshman delivered a stellar performance. Earley pitched all seven innings, allowing one run, while scattering five hits and striking out five Bearcat batters.
The Bearcats took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single to right center and their starting hurler, Danielle Zurek, stymied the Dolphins bats for the first four innings.
Things changed for the Dolphins bottom of the fifth, as the bats awoke, scoring four runs to take a 4-1 lead. Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week
Taylor Wittick started the inning off with a single to center, then stole second, setting up fellow freshman
Alanna Alioto-Reyes, who drove Wittick home with a single. Alioto-Reyes came around to score on an RBI single by
Rachel Heizer, giving CMSV a 2-1 lead. After loading the bases, freshman
Taylor Milata smacked a two-run single through the left side to put the Dolphins up 4-1.
In the sixth, Wittick led off with a single and steal again and would come around to score on an another Alioto-Reyes RBI single.
Samantha Broo, would smack a two run single later in the inning allowing R. Heizer and Alioto-Reyes to score to make it 7-1. Earley would end the scoring and help her own cause with an RBI single to center field to make the score 8-1.
In game two, R. Heizer started in the circle and one-hit the Bearcats over six stellar innings with six strikeouts, earning her third win of the season.
Katie Moos started the scoring for the Dolphins in the second inning, as the sophomore smacked a solo home-run over the left field fence, putting the Mount ahead 1-0.
In the third inning
Rianna Laughridge, belted a two-run homer to left field putting the team up 3-0. A Dolphins run in the fifth and sixth inning would make the score 5-0 after six full innings.
Prior to the start of the top of the seventh, the umpires called the game due to darkness.
