ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Thursday afternoon, taking on Bard College in a non-conference doubleheader. The Dolphins smacked eight hits in game one but lost 4-2, then they committed five errors in game two, which led to a 10-4 loss, which drops the teams record to 4-7 on the season.
Juan Brito started game one for the Mount, as the junior pitched into the 5th inning, surrendering two earned runs on four hits, while striking out three batters.
The scoring started for the Dolphins in the top of the second.
Kyle Tamburi led off the inning with a triple to right center, then a walk, steal and fielding error loaded the bases for
Luis Castillo, who drew a walk, forcing in a run and giving his team a 1-0 lead.
Bard would go ahead by putting a two-spot on the board in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead.
However in the top of the fifth, the Dolphins executed a double-steal with
James Valenti taking second and
Matthew Nesensohn swiping home to tie the score at 2-2.
The defense let two unearned runs score in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Bard ahead 4-2.
In the sixth inning, the Dolphins left the bases loaded, as Tamburi grounded out to end the threat. In the seventh, the Mount once again had runners in scoring position but an infield groundout ended the threat and secured the win for Bard.
In game two, starter
Tyler Reyes only managed to pitch into the third inning, allowing three earned runs, on two hits but the freshman struggled with control as he issued six free passes in 2.2 innings.
Once again the Mount started off the scoring,
John T McEwan and Stephen Hansen smacked back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the second inning.
Bard opened up a four run lead after scoring six runs in the bottom of the third, but the Dolphins responded by getting two back in the top of the next inning and a two-run single by Hansen, allowing Pacheco and Saunders to score.
Bard would tack on a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to earn a 10-4 lead.
