Baseball Falls In Doubleheader Vs. St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Brown takes hard luck loss in game 2

FARMINGDALE, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Sunday night, traveling to Long Island to take on Skyline Conference foe, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Dolphins dropped both games of the doubleheader, falling to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

In game one, Bears starting pitcher Mitch Brigando stymied the Mount's bats, allowing three hits over seven innings, while striking out six. Zachary Saunders, Michael Kochen and Steven Hansen were the only Dolphins to get hits off Brigando. Saunders was on base twice in his three plate appearances, as the freshman collected a hit in the top of the 3rd and was hit by a pitch in the top of the 6th.

Robert Negron started for CMSV, going 5+ innings and striking out seven batters, a season-high.

In game two, Evan Brown started for the Dolphins and gave his team 6.1 innings of quality pitching, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out a season-high seven batters. The first two runs were scored without a hit, as the Bears scored on a sacrifice fly in the 1st and scored on a wild pitch in the 4th.

The Dolphins bats were once again limited to just three hits but they worked two walks and took advantage of two Bear errors.

In the top of the 2nd, Kochen got on base to lead off the inning thanks to an infield error, then came home to score when the next batter, Kyle Tamburi doubled to left field to tie the score at 1-1.

In the top of the 6th, the Dolphins once again fought back to tie the score. Saunders led off the inning with a single, the stole second base putting a runner in scoring position with no outs. The next batter James Valenti earned a walk, then Matthew Nesensohn drove home Saunders with a single to make it 2-2.

The Bears would win the game on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th, thanks to John Condon who singled home Kevin Linitz.
