MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The CMSV Softball team opened up the 2017 season on Monday morning, playing two games at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Dolphins opened up play with a 7-2 win over Keystone College but then dropped their next decision 14-0 against Gettysburg College.
In the 7-2 victory over Gettysburg, senior
Mackenzie Heizer pitched seven strong innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, while striking out seven batters.
The offense was provided by the Mount's 3-4-5 hitters who all collected two hits and each scored at least one run. Not only was M. Heizer solid on the mound but she was perfect at the plate, too, getting on base all four times she got up.
Sophia Herrera and
Taylor Wittick both collected two hits in their first collegiate game and both drove in two runs each.
In the second game vs. Gettysburg, Dolphins were unable to solve the opposing pitcher. Morgan Clauser held the Mount offense to one hit over five innings, while striking out five batters.
CMSV returns to action in Myrtle Beach Tuesday with two games, first against Rutgers-Camden, followed by University of Wisconsin-Stout. Both games can be watched live, with links available on the
