Barone's Layup In Final Minute Seals CMSV Win Over USMMA

Barone led the Dolphins with 19 points

KINGS POINT, NY - The CMSV Women's Basketball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, traveling to Long Island to take on Skyline Conference foe, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The Dolphins were looking to win their second straight and complete the season sweep of the Mariners.

Christina Barone's layup with 46 seconds left in the game was the game winner as the Dolphins improved to 15-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

Barone led all players with 19 points and Kristen Merrell chipped in with 11 points.

The Mount opened up play in the first quarter scoring the first six points of the game, thanks to 3-pointers by Barone and Ryan Doherty on the teams first two possessions. The Mariners responded going on a 13-0 run and led 20-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Dolphins clamped down on the defensive end in the second, limiting USMMA to just five points. Barone nailed a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in the second to put CMSV ahead 27-25 at the break.

The entire second half was back and forth, as neither team would take a lead of more than three points.

Down 53-50 with 3:56 left in the game, the Dolphins were able to end the game on an 8-1 run. Brittany Carroll connected on a 3-pointer with 1:45 to go to tie the game, then Barone would drive the lane and make the game-winner with 46 seconds left, to give the Dolphins the victory.
