Dolphins Move On To Skyline Semifinals

5 Dolphins score in double figures to lead the way

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night, hosting no. 5-seed Farmingdale State, in a First Round match-up in the 2017 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Championships. The Mount avenged a loss to the Rams from three days ago, advancing to the Semifinal round, with an 86-67 victory. The no. 4-seed Dolphins will travel to Long Island to take on top-seed Old Westbury on Thursday February 23 at 7pm.

Five Dolphins scored in double-figures to lead the offense, led by Dez Brown who put in a team-high 16 points, on 8-of-11 shooting. Kelly Nola and Brittany Carroll scored 14 apiece, while Kelly Oliver added 13 points and Christina Barone scored 12 points, while dishing out nine assists and pulling down seven rebounds.

The first quarter flew by at a break-neck pace as both teams went up and down the court. Brown scored the Dolphins first eight points of the game, to help CMSV open a 12-5 lead less than three minutes into action. The Rams would fight back, thanks to hot shooting from 3-point land, led by AJ Smith who connected on 3-of-4 from distance in the first 10 minutes. Barone would connect on a 3-pointer with 1:38 left in the quarter

and then Ryan Doherty would make a layup with 10 seconds left to give CMSV a 21-19 lead after one.

In the second the Dolphins clamped down defensively, while keeping up their fast paced offense. The Mount shut down the Rams, allowing only two made 3-pointers, and forcing six turnovers. On the offensive end, Carroll connected on 2-of-3 from distance in the period, and the Dolphins got 10 points from the free throw line, to increase their lead and take a 49-31 lead into halftime.

The Dolphins were even more efficient in the third quarter, shooting 55% from the field and 57% from 3-point land. Nola and Carroll both went 2-for-2 from distance in the period. Carroll's second 3-pointer of the quarter would give the Dolphins a 30 point lead, which they would take into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, the Dolphins would continue their hot shooting. Oliver's 3-pointer with 5:51 left in the game gave the Dolphins their largest lead of the game.

The Rams would end the game on an 14-3 run to trim a 30 point deficit to a 19 points as the final buzzer sounded.
