Cold 2nd Half Dooms CMSV In Loss To Yeshiva

Andrew Curiel leads all players with 17 points

NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Thursday night, traveling into Manhattan to take on Skyline Conference foe, Yeshiva University, in a game rescheduled from earlier in the month. The Dolphins went cold on the offensive end in the second half and lost 71-52 to the Maccabees, falling to 6-17 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

Andrew Curiel scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Jason Barrera added 12 points.

Curiel was the engine for the Dolphins in the first half, as the junior scored 15 points in the opening half. His jumper with 13:03 left in the half put the Mount up 13-6, giving the team their largest lead of the half.

The Maccabees began chipping away at the lead and would eventually take the lead 25-24 at the 7:34 mark on a 3-pointer by Eli Mamann. The Dolphins would take back the lead a few minutes later when Curiel converted a 3-point play to make the score 27-25 with 4:43 left in the half.

Austin Mick drained a 3-pointer with just under 3 minutes left which started a 7-1 run to end the half and give the Dolphins a 36-31 lead at the midway point.

The offense dried up in the second half, as the Dolphins shot 5-of-26 (19%) from the field and failed to connect on a 3-pointer, while Yeshiva shot 44% from the field and 50% from 3-point land.

After scoring on their opening possession to start the second half, the Dolphins would go over eight minutes without a made field goal until Barrera made a layup at the 11:01 mark. Despite the lack of offense, the Dolphins found themselves only down 46-43 after Barrera made another layup at the 10:36 mark.

A 20-5 Yeshiva run turned a 3-point lead into an 18 point lead with 4:16 left in the game and CMSV would never recover.
