RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night, hosting Skyline Conference foe, SUNY Old Westbury, on Senior Night. The Dolphins were unable to send seniors
Myron Hickman,
Jesse Regina,
Khalil Shorter and
Ramiel Coleman off with a victory, as the Panthers edged the Dolphins 61-53. The loss drops CMSV to 6-16 overall and 4-9 in conference, while the Old Westbury improves to 16-7 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
Hickman led all players with 15 points and was the lone Mount player to score in double digits.
Andrew Curiel added nine points and seven rebounds, while
Matthew Sowah and
Austin Mick each added eight points.
In the opening 20 minutes of action, the Dolphins controlled the pace, slowing the game down into a half court affair, shooting 11-of-22 (50%)from the field in the first half, while holding the Panthers to 10-of-28 from the field.
CMSV would open up a five point lead after an
Austin Mick layup made the score 14-9 with 10:55 left in the half but Old Westbury would get right back into it, cutting the lead to one two possessions later.
After a 3-point play by Jamail Stanley made the score 18-17 CMSV with 7:37 left in the half,
Trevor Johnson would score the next five points, to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the game at 23-17 with 6:62 left before halftime.
The Dolphins lost the lead for the first time at the 1:19 mark after Brandon Thomson connected on a 3-pointer to put the Panthers ahead 28-27.
The intensity picked up in the second half and CMSV would strike first, taking back the lead on a Hickman 3-pointer less than two minutes into action, the Panthers responded, going on a 7-0 run to lead 37-30 with 16:18 to go.
Sowah connected on a 3-pointer at the 12:19 mark to put his team ahead 39-37. Mick would connect five minutes later on a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock to put CMSV ahead 42-38 with 7:54 left in the game.
Old Westbury would respond once again going on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 51-44 lead with 4:24 to go.
Down the stretch, CMSV couldn't quite get over the hump, cutting the lead down to three twice but 5-of-6 shooting from Old Westbury would secure the victory.
