RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Volleyball team returned to the court on Wednesday night, hosting inter-borough rival, Lehman College, in the Men's Volleyball 'Battle of the Bronx.' The Dolphins won in four sets over the Lightning 26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23, to even their record at 4-4, while dropping Lehman to 1-5.
This marks the fourth straight season the Dolphins have beaten the Lightning in Men's Volleyball.
Playing without their primary setter,
Tyler Cucullu and
Jordan Steiger filled in admirably, dishing out 30 and 16 assists respectively.
Cucullu and Steiger were also heavily involved in the Mount's attack, which tallied 55 kills and a .199 hitting percentage. Cucullu added 12 kills, 12 digs, three aces and two total blocks, Steiger added 11 kills and 15 digs.
Neven Skoblar added 11 kills, 11 digs and two solo blocks.
The Dolphins had their most efficient set in the first as they only committed three errors, smashed 13 kills and hit .256%. The second set, CMSV smashed 16 kills, a match high.
The teams split the first two sets, each one by the score of 26-24.
In the third set, Lehman took control late in the set going ahead 21-17 but the Dolphins won eight of the next nine points capping off the victory with a kill from Cucullu.
The fourth set was back and forth for the majority of the set. With the match tied at 20, CMSV won four of the next five points to pull ahead 24-21 taking advantage of three straight errors by Lehman. The Lightning won the next two points to pull within one, but after a CMSV timeout, Steiger would end the match with a clinching kill to secure the 25-23 set victory.
