Dolphins Win 5th Straight; Move To 5-2 In Conference Play

Barone & Carroll Score In Double Digits For CMSV

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's Basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Skyline Conference rival US Merchant Marine Academy. The Dolphins never trailed the entire game, en route to a 62-51 victory, pushing the teams record to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Christina Barone once again led the Mount in scoring, putting 15 points, while grabbing five rebounds. Brittany Carroll chipped in with 10 points, while Ryan Doherty and Kelly Nola each added nine points each.

The first quarter began at a slow pace but the Dolphins pulled away over the final two minutes, ending the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 17-11 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

CMSV took their first double digit lead in the second quarter on a Nola fast break layup to put the Dolphins up 21-11 with 8:35 left before halftime. The Mariners cut into the Dolphins lead, getting to within four points on two different occasions, but a 12-2 scoring spurt capped off by a Nola layup, made the score 38-24, giving the home side their largest lead of the first half.

The Dolphins continued to increase their lead throughout the third quarter. A Merrell 3-pointer with 4:32 left in the quarter put CMSV up 49-30, the largest lead the Mount would have all game.

For the remainder of the game the Dolphins lead would not dip under 11 points as they cruised to a 62-51 victory.
