Dolphins Fall By 6 At Old Westbury

Nick Nemergut Leads With Career High 13 points

OLD WESTBURY, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Thursday night, traveling to Long Island to take on Skyline Conference foe, SUNY Old Westbury in a key conference matchup. The Panthers held on to down the Dolphins 68-62, dropping CMSV's record to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in Skyline play.

Nick Nemergut led the offense for the Mount, chipping in with a career-high 13 points, while Ammad Alkhulaidi grabbed 12 rebounds to  go along with 12 points, to notch his 4th double-double of the season.

The game opened up as a back and forth affair with the teams trading baskets for the first six minutes of the game. However, with 13:32 left before halftime, the Dolphins went on a 12-2 run, capped off by a Matthew Sowah 3-pointer, to take a 17-9 lead with 11:21 left before halftime.

The Panthers rallied and would tie the game at 24 all with 5:51 left in the half on a Shane Smith jumper. The teams would trade baskets over the closing minutes of the game but OWC would take a one point lead into the break thanks to a jumper by Terrin Roland to make the score 33-32 in favor of the home side.

In the second half, Nemergut would tie the score up at 40-40 on a fast break 3-pointer at 14:32 and would connect again on the Mount's next possession to put the team up by three.

Old Westubry would go ahead but Ramiel Coleman nailed a 3 with 11:03 left in the game to tie things at 46 all but a Panthers 15-7 run over the next 7 minutes of game action put them ahead 61-53 with 4:39 remaining in the game.

CMSV didn't go away, as they continued to claw back, eventually taking a 62-61 lead with 1:59 to go on a Sowah layup, but that would be the last points the Mount would score as Old Westbury connected on a 3-pointer and went 4-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
