Dolphins Win 4th In A Row With Victory Over MSMC

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's Basketball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, hosting Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary's College. The Dolphins held the Knights to just 16 points in the second half,and winning 66-49 improving to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Christina Barone led the way the CMSV, scoring a game-high 15 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Brittany Carroll, connected on 50% of 3-pointers, en route to 12 points. Ryan Doherty stuffed the stat sheet, chipping in with seven points, seven rebounds and five assists. As a team the Dolphins handed out 18 assists on 25 made field goals. 

Offense was at a premium to start the game, especially for CMSV who found themselves down 8-3 a little over five minutes into the first quarter. After trading buckets over the next few minutes, a Kelly Oliver jumper tied the game at 10, then Carroll nailed a 3-pointer to give the Dolphins a 13-10 lead. After 10 minutes of play, CMSV was ahead 16-12.

In the second quarter, the teams traded baskets with no lead larger than four points showing on the scoreboard for either team. MSMC took a 25-24 lead with 4:07 before halftime but a few possessions later Doherty nailed a 3-pointer to put CMSV back ahead by two points. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch of the 2nd quarter as the score would be tied four times, including at halftime, thanks to a Kristen Merrell jumper with two seconds left. 

The Dolphins clamped down defensively throughout the second half, forcing the Knights into 14 turnovers, and holding them to just five made field goals over the final 20 minutes of action. 

The third quarter started with a 15-3 CMSV run over the first six minutes of play, capped off by two free throws by Dez Brown after grabbing an offensive rebound. 

The Dolphins lead continued to swell well into the fourth quarter with it reaching a peak of 19 points with 1:31 left on the clock after a Carroll 3-pointer made the score 66-47.
