BROOKLYN, NY - The CMSV Men's Volleyball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to the Brooklyn Athletic Facility to take on two nationally ranked teams, including the top ranked team in the country.
The Dolphins dropped both matches in straight sets, first to #1 Springfield College and then to #6 New York University.
Against the top-ranked Pride, the Dolphins were led by
Tyler Cucullu tallied eight kills and a .263 hitting percentage.
Logan Dickover dished out 13 assists, two kills and five digs.
The Mount took an early lead in the first set after a kill from Cucullu made it 4-2. The Pride would rally and find their rhythm winning 20 of the next 29 points to lead 22-13 forcing a CMSV timeout. The Dolphins won the two of the next three points after the timeout, but the top ranked Pride eventually closed out the set, winning 25-17.
Against NYU, Cucullu tallied a match best 18 kills, two aces, and a .433 hitting percentage, while Dickover chipped in with 21 assists.
Despite the Dolphins best efforts in the first set, where they had their most effective attack percentage, the #6 ranked Violets were better as they hit .611% as a team in the first set as they won 25-18.
The Dolphins lost their precision in the second set, as they had more errors than kills in a set, for the first time all season and only -,074% as NYU won 25-22.
The third set against the Violets was up for grabs as NYU had a negative hitting percentage.
Trailing by 10 in the third set, the Dolphins made a furious comeback turning a 19-9 deficit into a five point deficit at 20-15. However NYU would rally to close out the set winning 25-22, with CMSV getting no closer than two points.
