Dolphins Sweep CCNY For 3rd Straight Win

Sawyer leads with 10 kills, Cucullu adds 8 kills & 7 aces



RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Volleyball team returned to the floor on Tuesday night, hosting CCNY in a non-conference matchup. The Dolphins easily dispatched of the Beavers 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-15) to win their third straight game, improving to 3-2 on the season. 

The Mount was far superior and prepared as they out hit the visitors 31 kills to 21 kills and .257% to -.013%. As a team, the Dolphins committed only 13 errors in 70 attempts.

Scott Sawyer led the CMSV attack totaling a career-high 10 kills, while only committing one error in 14 attacks. He also added one solo block and one block assist, while hitting .643%. Skyline Conference Player of the Week Tyler Cucullu found his dominant serve for the first time this season, as the senior belted seven service aces, while adding in eight kills and  .263 hitting percentage. 

In the first set, the Dolphins fell behind early 7-4 but after a timeout the home side settled down and won the next four points to pull ahead 8-7. Later on in the set, the Dolphins were down once again 17-15 but with Cucullu serving, the team won the next seven points, three of which came on service aces, to take a commanding 22-17 lead. 

CMSV had their best hitting set in the second, smashing 14 kills and hitting a combined .393%. The Dolphins won 15 of the first 20 points of the set en route to their largest set victory of the match.

In the final set both teams traded the lead early on but CMSV took control winning eight of nine points during a run which saw a 9-9 tie turn into a 17-10 advantage for the home side. CCNY would have three straight errors to end the set and clinch the Dolphins victory.
