Dolphins Falter Down the Stretch In Loss To Sage

Curiel notches 2nd straight double-double

ALBANY, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, traveling upstate to take on Skyline Conference foe Sage College. Despite 3 Dolphins scoring in double figures, the Mount dropped a 63-61 decision to the Gators to fall to 3-13 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.

Myron Hickman has his best game for the Mount, as he led the team tallying a season-high 15 points and collecting six rebounds. Austin Mick scored in double figures for the second straight game with 13 points and Andrew Curiel notched his second straight double double scoring 10 points and tying a career-high with 14 rebounds.

CMSV led for all but one possession in the first half, thanks to solid contributions by Matthew Sowah and David Collins who both scored all eight of their points in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Mount's lead would grow to as much as nine points at the 11:05 mark of the first half, when Mick drove the lane and hit a layup to put his side ahead 23-14, forcing the Gators to call a timeout.

After the timeout, Sage would score but the Dolphins answered back on their next possession thanks to a jumper by Collins, putting CMSV back up by nine with 10:19 left in the half.

On the defensive end, the Dolphins held their opponents to just 39% from the field and were it not for CMSV missing six free throws, the Mount's five point halftime lead could've been larger.

In the second half, the home side would tie the game at 40-40 on a 3-pointer by Marcus Patterson, who led all scorers with 24 points but CMSV would respond going up 45-40, just a few minutes later after Hickman nailed one of his two made three pointers of the evening.

Sage would take their first lead since early in the first half with 8:46 left in the game but Hickman would answer once again to put his side up 52-51 with 7:53 to go.

The game would remain close and with the score tied at 57 all, Hickman nailed another three with 2:47 to go to put CMSV up by three, but that would be the last field goal the Dolphins would score as the Gators would end the game on a 6-1 run and go ahead for good on a Rob Mills 3-pointer with 36 seconds to go.
