BROOKLYN, NY - Playing in front of over 500 fans at the Barclays Center, the CMSV Men's Basketball team squared off against non-conference foe College of New Rochelle on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Angels led for nearly all 40 minutes of the game, and cruised to an 88-62 victory. The loss drops the Dolphins to 4-12, while CNR improves to 6-9.
Andrew Curiel, led the Mount, scoring 20 points, leading the team in scoring for the second straight game and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, as the junior posted his fifth double-double of the season. A day after setting a career-high in points, freshman
Austin Mick set a new career-high, scoring 15 points, connecting on four 3-pointers.
Khalil Shorter started and chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists before fouling out of the contest late in the second half.
The Dolphins got off to a slow start on the offensive end, falling behind 14-4 just six minutes into action but Mick would convert on a 3-point play to pull CMSV to within five points with 11:08 left in the half.
CNR would push their lead back up to double-digits, which they would maintain until the 3:08 mark, when Shorter, who was fouled attempting a 3-pointer, connected on all three free throws to make the score 34-27.
A few possessions later, Mick would bury a corner 3-pointer to draw the Mount to within four at 36-32.
The closest the Dolphins would get in the second half would be six at the 17:37 mark when Curiel grabbed on offensive rebound and put back a layup making the score 42-36.
The Blue Angels shot 53% from the field in the second half and continued to grow their lead. Elijah Harris scored on the fast break off a pass from Jack Tisdale to make the score 64-49 with 9:07 left in the game.
Tisdale scored 19 points for CNR, while Hunter Schenkel scored 20 points, Harris had a solid all-around game pouring in 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out seven assists.
The lead would grow to 23 late in the second half, when the game was in hand for CNR and both benches had been emptied.
