BRONXVILLE, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action Saturday afternoon, traveling to take on Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference matchup. The Dolphins came back from a five point deficit in the second half to win their first conference game of the season, with a 73-69 victory, pushing their record to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the Skyline.
Andrew Curiel led all players in scoring, as the junior poured in a career high 21 points, 14 of which came in the second half, while
Jose Maestre scored 11 points, while handing out four assists.
The game was close for the entire 40 minutes, as neither team held a double-digit lead. The score was tied 10 times with the largest lead for either team being eight points for the home side late in the first half. The Mount shot 48% from the field in the first half compared to 34% for SLC, but the Gryphones kept the game close by connecting on 13-of-15 from the free throw line.
Late in the first half the Dolphins got down by eight points after a SLC three pointer made the score 35-27 with 3:01 left but in the closing minutes of the half, CMSV would outscore SLC 11-3. The run was capped off by an
Austin Mick three pointer with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 38 at the break.
The entire second half was close, as each possession would keep the score within three points. However, with 5:42 left in the game, the Dolphins trailed by five but would score on their next two possession to tie the score at 62.
Curiel would put the nail in the coffin on back-to-back possessions for CMSV in the final 90 seconds of play. With 1:21 to go, he would nail a 10 foot jumper to put his team up 68-66, then, after a made free throw by SLC, Curiel would nail a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left to put the Dolphins up 71-67 and the Dolphins would make their free throws down the stretch.
