Dolphins Fall 78-67 To St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Maestre leads CMSV with 11 points

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, hosting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference matchup. The visiting Bears led the entire way and downed the Dolphins 78-67, dropping the Mount to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Jose Maestre came off the bench to lead CMSV in scoring with a season-high 11 points. Jason Barrera also came off the bench, scoring 10 points while grabbing eight rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

The Bears started off the game on a 9-2 run in the first 3:37 of the game but five quick points by the Dolphins on their next two possessions cut the lead to 9-7 with 15:31 left in the half.

The lead would once again grow in favor of the visitors with St. Joe's taking a 13 point lead with 12:18 left in the first half. Looking for a spark off the bench, the Dolphins were able to cut the lead down to three after Claudio Nmezi connected on two free throws, making the score 21-18 with just over seven minutes left in the half.

A few minutes later Maestre also connected on two free throws to get the Dolphins within two points at 23-21. The Bears would maintain their lead and took a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

To open the second half, the Bears would see their lead grow to as much as 11 points a little over three minutes into play after a layup put the visitors ahead 44-33. However, over the next two minutes the Dolphins would cut the lead to 44-40, thanks to a 3-pointer by Nicholas Carbone and back-to-back buckets by Matthew Sowah

Over the next 10 minutes of play the Bears would go on a 24-5 run to put them ahead 68-45 with 6:26 remaining and cruise to an 11 point victory.
