PATCHOGUE, NY - The CMSV Men's Soccer team returned to action on Wednesday night, taking on Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's-LI. The Dolphins earned a 4-3 2OT victory over the Golden Eagles, to improve to 4-5-1 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0.
The Dolphins fell behind late in the first half, when in the 40', the Golden Eagles beat the Mount keeper with a shot from 30 yards out to put the home side up 1-0.
To open up the second half, the Dolphins wasted no time equalizing, as
Kevin Jardines netted his team leading 5th goal of the season. Over the course of the next 20 minutes of play both teams were able to sustain possession and attempt shots but none were on target.
That changed in the 62' for the Golden Eagles, as they were able to convert a rebound off the crossbar for their second goal of the game and make the score 2-1.
The pace picked up in the final 10 minutes of play with the Mount equalizing for the second time in the 81', thanks to
Tim Guido's shot that beat the home keeper to the left. Less than five minutes later,
Jair Magallan looked to have won the game for his team as his shot from outside the 18 yard box beat the keeper to give CMSV a 3-2 with less than five minutes to go.
In the with just over two minutes remaining in the game, St. Joe's equalized as the Golden Eagles beat the Dolphins keeper low and to the left.
In the first OT period, the Dolphins were the more aggressive team having attempted three shots, to the Golden Eagles one, none of the four shots by either team were on target.
Just over a minute into the second OT period, the Dolphins nearly won the game but
Alexi Aguilar's header hit the post and was covered by the keeper. As play continued St. Joe's had their opportunities forcing Mount keeper
David Melchor to make one save in the 105' to preserve the tie.
After winning possession on a St. Joe's corner kick, the Dolphins countered with
Andrew Gomez and
Pablo Tellez putting shots on target less than 30 second apart.
Finally, they broke through in the 109' as Guido put home a cross from Jardines low and to the left to give the Dolphins well deserved 4-3 victory.
