THROGGS NECK, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to action Saturday afternoon, taking on SUNY Maritime in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. The Dolphins dropped game 1, 15-6 and game 12-1 to fall to 2-11 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

In game one, the Dolphins offense collected 11 hits, led by Keith Schroeher, Steven Giustino, Joe Senisi and Craig Weber, all of whom got two hits apiece. Keith Brodesser, John McEwan and Xavier Ruiz collected to three other Dolphin hits.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Dolphins scored three runs in their half, all with two outs. The rally began when Ruiz doubled to left field and would score on a Weber RBI single. Schroeher then smacked a double to score Weber and would later score on another RBI double, this time by Giustino to make the score 3-1 Dolphins after two innings.

In the third the team would add one more run on a leadoff homerun by Brodesser, his first of the season.

CMSV starter Michael Kochen hit a rough patch in the fifth inning, giving up three runs on one hit, as control became a problem. Kochen issued three walks and hit a batter in the inning and allowed runners to advance into scoring position with a wild pitch. He was able to strand two runners when he induced a groundout to end the inning with the game tied at 4-4.

Kochen cruised through the sixth throwing only seven pitches to get three outs. But in the seventh, he gave up a leadoff single and RBI double before being replaced by Joe Crosser, who gave up an RBI double to the first batter he faced, closing the books on Kochen. Crosser allowed one more run to score in the inning and then two more in the eighth to make the score 9-4 going to the ninth.

In the ninth the Dolphins gave up six runs on four hits to blow the game open but in the bottom of the ninth CMSV scratched across two runs on a sac fly by Weber and an RBI single by Schroeher.


SUNY Maritime 12 CMSV 1

In game two the Dolphins were shut down by Maritime starting pitcher Anthony D'Ancona who pitched seven innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out five. He did struggle with command as he issued seven walks on the day.

CMSV scored their lone run in the seventh inning after D'Ancona walked Brandon Pasquale with the bases loaded to score Honorio Pena.

Dolphins pitching gave up 12 runs, only five earned, and 12 hits.

CMSV returns to action tomorrow when they will take on Mount Saint Mary's College in a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
