NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to action Sunday afternoon taking on Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary's College in a doubleheader played on the campus of Salesian High School.
The Knights swept both games against the Dolphins, taking game one 16-2, then took game two 9-6 with a late inning comeback.
MSMC 16 CMSV 2 - Game 1
In game one the Dolphins pitching couldn't contain the Knights offense. All three CMSV pitchers gave up six hits and each surrendered multiple runs over seven innings.
The Dolphins broke through in the second inning when Joe Senisi scored on an RBI groundout by
Xavier Ruiz to make the score 9-1.
In the sixth inning CMSV would score once again playing small ball, led by Senisi, whose second one-out walk of the game produced a run. With the bases loaded,
Craig Weber hit a sac-fly to score Senisi to make the score 16-2.
MSMC 9 CMSV 6 - Game 2
In game two, the Dolphins offense carried the afternoon, scoring four runs in the first four innings of play.
CMSV fell behind 3-0 before they came to bat but were able to respond, scoring two in the bottom of the first off of Knights starter Riley Stong.
Keith Schroeher led off the Dolphins half of the inning with a double and would advance to third on a
Steven Giustino single, setting up Matt Nesensohn with first and third with no outs. Nesensohn walked loading the bases for
Brandon Pasquale, who would single to score Schroeher making the score 3-1. The next batter was Senisi and he drew a walk to force home Giustino to make it 3-2.
The Dolphins got back at it again in the second inning, when Schroeher hit a two out triple and would later score on an error by the Knight's shortstop, to tie the game at 3-3.
MSMC would score one in the fourth to go ahead 4-3 but in the bottom half of the inning, CMSV would answer back and tie the game when Weber scored on a
Keith Brodesser single.
It came unraveled in the sixth and seventh innings with the Dolphins surrendering five runs.
Down three heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Dolphins managed to put two runners on for the top of the lineup. Schroeher knocked home Senisi but the game would end with the tying run at second base on a groundout.
Upcoming Schedule
The Dolphins return to action Wednesday April 13 against Lehman at 5pm, then will play doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday against Farmingdale State and Yeshiva.
