Softball Drops Doubleheader Vs. Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action Wednesday afternoon taking on Manhattanville College in a non-conference doubleheader. The Dolphins dropped both games, falling to 6-10 on the season.

In game on the Dolphins offense was limited to two hits off of Valiants starter Alycia Feeney, who pitched all five innings, striking out six CMSV batters.

Celestina Alfaro ended the no-hit bid for Feeney in the bottom of the third when she bunted for a base hit, putting two runners on. Feeney would respond by striking out three of the next four batters to end the threat.

Skyline Conference Player of the Week Rachel Heizer led off the next inning with a single for the Dolphins second hit of the game.

In game two, the Dolphins were able to put together some hits but gave up 15 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to force the final of the game.

Manhattanville scored one run in the second and then tacked on four more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. But in the bottom of the third, CMSV scored four of their own to cut the lead to 5-4.

CMSV got the first three batters on base in the inning and would knock their first run across on a Sac Fly by Katie Moos. Samantha Broo would score two batters later thanks to a Valients fielding errors  which allowed two runs to score and then Mackenzie Heizer singled home her sister R. Heizer to make the score 5-4.

But in the fourth inning, the Valiants exploded six runs on seven hits to take a commanding 11-4 lead and they would tack on nine more in the fifth to seal a 20-4 victory.

The Dolphins return to action Saturday April 9, when they will travel to take on Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary's in a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
