NEWBURGH, NY - The #3 seed CMSV Softball team returned to action in the Skyline Conference Championships, taking on #2 seed Sage College. The Dolphins used 12 hits to earn an 8-2 victory and advance to Game #5, where they will face top-seeded Mount Saint Mary's College at 10am.
Dolphins starting pitcher
Kathryn Dalton went the distance, allowing only two hits, while scattering eight hits over seven innings. In picking up her seventh win of the season, the senior struck out four Gator batters.
CMSV started the scoring off right away in the first inning as the first three batters got on base, setting up
Rachel Heizer with the bases-loaded and the sophomore delivered a bases clearing double to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead.
Sage got one run back in their half of the first with a lead-off inside the park homerun to make it 3-1.
CMSV would get two runners in scoring position in the second inning but they would be stranded. However, in the third, the Dolphins once again loaded the bases for the top of their lineup.
Danielle Maffei hit an RBI single through the left side, allowing Dalton to score to make it 4-1. The next batter,
Samantha Broo, was hit by a pitch in the leg which allowed
Deanna Nardi to score and make it 5-1 and chasing Gators starting pitcher Katie Kovage.
In the fifth inning the Dolphins added two more runs, thanks to the top of their lineup. Broo laced a double down the left field line, which scored Nardi and put runners on second and third with two outs. The next pitch got past the Sage catcher and allowed Maffei to score and make it 7-1.
CMSV added one more run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by
Rianna Laughridge, which was set up by a lead-off walk and single by Heizer and Dalton.
The victory puts the Dolphins through to Game #5 in the Skyline Championships, where they will face #1 seed MSMC. The winner of that game will automatically advance to Sunday's Championship round.
