Baseball Drops Doubleheader On Senior Day To St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Dolphins Fall 12-2 In G1 & 7-5 In Game 2

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to action Sunday afternoon, taking on St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. The Dolphins lost both games, falling 12-2 in game one and 7-5 in game two. The two losses drop the Dolphins to 6-20 on the season and 3-11 in conference play, eliminating them from postseason play.

Prior to the start of the game, the CMSV Athletic Department and head coach Vinny Todino honored the 8 senior members of the 2016 team and presented them each with a framed picture and flowers, as each senior was walked out onto the field by their family members.

St. Joseph's-BK 12 CMSV 2 - Game 1

In game one, the Dolphins were undone by their pitching, which allowed at least one run six of the seven innings of the game. Starter Robert Negron lasted 3.1 innings giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Frank Angeles pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits and Juan Brito pitched the final 1.1 innings giving up one earned run on three hits. CMSV pitching combined to record only two strikeout during the seven inning contest.

Trailing by 12 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, needing three runs to extend the game, CMSV was able to push across runs off of Bears starter Brian Luebcke.

Xavier Ruiz led off with a walk, and then would come around to score on a triple by Keith Schroeher to make it 12-1. The next batter Steven Giustino, reached on an infield error, which allowed Schroeher to score and make it 12-2. Matthew Nesensohn would reach with a single, setting up Criag Weber with two on and one out and he would single, but the Dolphins third run was cut down at the plate by an excellent throw from the Bears center fielder.

St. Joseph's-BK 7 CMSV 5 - Game 2

In game two the CMSV bats awoke, breaking out for five runs in the third inning, as they sent 10 batters to the plate.

Schroeher led off the inning with a single, then stole second and after a walk to Giustino, Nesensohn delivered an RBI single, scoring Schroeher to tie the game at 1-1. Weber would single and advance the runners one base each, setting up Michael Kochen with the bases loaded and no outs. Kochen hit a sac fly to center, allowing Giustino to score and give the Dolphins a two run lead.

The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Brandon Pasquale, who laced a triple to center, which allowed Weber and Nesensohn to score to make it 4-1 CMSV. Keith Brodesser drove in Pasquale with an RBI single to cap the Dolphins five run inning.

in the top of the fourth, the Bears broke through with four runs off of CMSV starter Evan Brown, who pitched 4.1 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits.

The Bears scored one more run in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. The visitors bullpen shut down the Dolphin bats over the final four innings giving up only four hits and setting the Dolphins down in order twice.

Upcoming Schedule

The Dolphins wrap up 2016 play this week with two matchup, first a non-conference game against NYU on 4/27 at 3:30pm and then the 2016 season finale, a Skyline DH vs. Old Westbury, starting at 12pm.
