STATEN ISLAND, NY - The CMSV softball team returned to action Thursday afternoon, taking on 3-time defending CUNYAC Champion the College of Staten Island Dolphins in a non-conference doubleheader. CSI swept CMSV, winning 6-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two. The losses drop CMSV to 18-14 overall.
CSI 6 CMSV 1 - Game 1
In game one, the Dolphins were undone by two critical errors in the 1st and 4th innings, which allowed five unearned runs to score.
CMSV starter
Rachel Heizer went the distance, going six innings, giving up six hits and six runs, only one of which was earned. She was out dueled by CSI starter Jacqueline Cautela who pitched 7 innings, giving up four hits and one earned run, while striking out six CMSV batters.
CMSV pushed their lone run across the plate in the 4th inning on an RBI single by
Kierstyn Bourdeau, which allowed
Katie Moos to score.
CSI 2 CMSV 1 - Game 2
In game two,
Kathryn Dalton was the hard-luck loser in the circle, as the senior tossed well enough to win. Dalton pitched 6 innings, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out four.
CSI took the lead in the 2nd inning, when Dalton gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases with only one out. She then walked a CSI batter on five pitches to force in the first run of the game.
CMSV answered two innings later when R. Heizer smacked an RBI double, which scored
Danielle Maffei, who led off the inning with a triple.
CSI took the lead back in the fifth inning, scoring an unearned run to take a 2-1 lead. CSI pitcher Nicolette Trapani would shut down CMSV over the final two innings to secure the CSI victory.
Upcoming Schedule
CMSV closes out the regular season on Saturday April 23, when they will host Sage College in a key Skyline doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 11am with both games being played on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury.
