OLD WESTBURY, NY - The CMSV softball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday afternoon, taking on Sage College in a pivotal Skyline Conference doubleheader. The two teams split the DH, with the Gators taking game one 6-2 and the Dolphins coming back earn a walk-off win in game two by the score of 8-7.
Sage 6 CMSV 2 - Game 1
In game one, the Dolphins were only able to muster five hits of off the Gators starting pitcher.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Dolphins came to bat in the bottom half of the inning and answered back to tie the game.
Danielle Maffei hit a solo home-run to start the scoring off, then two batters later
Kathryn Dalton smacked an RBI double, driving in
Rachel Heizer to tie the score at 2.
That would be all the runs the Dolphins could manage as the team only recorded two more hits over the final six innings of play.
CMSV 8 Sage 7 - Game 2
In game two, the Dolphins bats woke up as they exploded for eight runs and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after three innings.
Kierstyn Bourdeau started things off for CMSV in the bottom of the second as she smacked a two run double to give her team a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, back to back RBI hits by R. Heizer and Dalton gave CMSV two more runs and a 4-0 lead.
The Gators began to chip away at the lead, getting one run back in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4 apiece.
The top of the seventh is when the fireworks began as neither team gave in, despite taking their opponents best punch.
In the Gators half of the inning, Duncan was able to hit a three run home-run to give her team a 7-4 lead.
However in the Dolphins half of the inning, they loaded the bases, getting the first three batters on, setting up
Katie Moos. Moos delivered a two run double to bring the Dolphins to within one at 7-6. With two outs, Heizer earned a walk, setting the stage for Dalton and the senior delivered, smacking a game-winning double to give her team an 8-7 victory.
The Dolphins finish the regular season with a 14-4 mark in Skyline play, locking them in to the #3 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Championships, where they will take on the #6 seed, which will be either Purchase College or SUNY Old Westbury.
