PURCHASE, NY - Playing in front of family and friends on "
Senior Day," the CMSV softball team swept non-conference foe John Jay in a doubleheader matchup on Saturday afternoon. The two wins put the Dolphins at 16-12 overall.
CMSV 6 John Jay 1 - Game 1
In game one, CMSV starter and senior
Kathryn Dalton, picked up her fourth win of the season, as she went the distance, pitching all seven innings, while giving up only four hits, while striking out a career-high 11 batters.
The Dolphins offense broke through in the fifth inning, as they scored three runs, two of which were unearned. Senior
Casey Cuccio scored the first run of the inning thanks to a John Jay infield error. Pinch-runner
Carol Santo scored from second on an RBI single by senior
Danielle Maffei, who would score on an error by John Jay's outfield.
In the sixth inning, the Dolphins scored three more runs, the first of which came on an RBI double by
Kierstyn Bourdeau to make it 4-1 CMSV.
Rianna Laughridge, playing in her first game in over a week, smacked a two-run homer to left to make it 6-1 Dolphins.
CMSV 14 John Jay 1 - Game 2
In game two, the Dolphins wasted no time putting runs on the board as they scored three runs in the first inning.
Joann Guerra started off the scoring, hitting a sac fly to center, allowing Maffei to score, the next batter,
Rachel Heizer belted a two-run home-run to right field to make it 3-0 CMSV.
The Dolphins scored six more runs in the second inning and three more in the third inning to go ahead 14-1.
CMSV returns to action Sunday when they will take on Sarah Lawrence College in a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
