NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Softball team took on Baruch College Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. The Dolphins swept the Bearcats, winning game one 13-3 and game two 25-0 to improve to 6-8 on the season.
CMSV 13 Baruch 3 - Game 1
Dolphins starter
Kathryn Dalton pitched all five innings, giving up three earned runs, all in the first inning, while striking out a season-high seven batters.
After giving up three runs and three hits in the bottom of the first inning, Dalton shut down the Bearcats limiting their lineup to just one hit over the next four innings of play.
CMSV scored at least one run in all five innings.
The scoring began in the top of the first as the first three batters would reach base, setting up clean-up hitter
Rachel Heizer, who would deliver an RBI single to give her team a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning
Samantha Broo would score the Dolphins second run on an RBI single by
Katie Moos, then Dalton, the next batter, would help her own cause by smacking an RBI double to left field scoring Moos all the way from first base to tie the score at 3-3.
The Dolphins would put the game out of reach in the third inning when they would score six runs, the highlight coming when Moos smacked a grand slam to left field to make the score 8-3 CMSV.
R. Heizer would score on a Sac Fly later in the sixth inning to make the score 9-3 and the Dolphins would add two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the victory.
CMSV 25 Baruch 0 - Game 2
Mackenzie Heizer started the game for the Dolphins and allowed only two hits over five innings, while striking out eight batters to earn her second victory of the season.
The Dolphins blew the game open in the first inning, scoring 12 runs as the team sent 17 batters up in the inning.
Joann Guerra led off the game with a double and would advance to third on a Bearcat error. She would come around to score on a Moos RBI single. The next batter, Dalton smacked a two-run homer to left to make the score 3-0.
Sirinda Arturi would drive two more runs in later in the inning with a single to left and then Guerra would drive home one more to make the score 6-0.
Dalton came to the plate next, again with the bases loaded and the senior would smack her second grand slam of the inning to make the score 10-0 CMSV.
CMSV added five runs in the second, one run in the third, six runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday when they will take on Purchase in a Skyline Conference doubleheader, scheduled to start at 12pm.
