NEW HAVEN, CT - The CMSV Softball team returned to action Monday afternoon facing off against Albertus Magnus in a non-conference doubleheader. The Dolphins won the first game 9-3 but fell in the second 7-2.
CMSV 9 Albertus Magnus 3 - Game 1Rachel Heizer started and went the distance for the Dolphins, pitching seven strong innings, giving up 10 hits and two earned runs, while striking out three batters.
The Dolphins exploded for 15 hits, led by Mackenzie &
Rachel Heizer who both went 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
Kierstyn Bourdeau went 3-for-3 in the game.
CMSV broke through first scoring three runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning. In the top of the second, R. Heizer led off with a double and would come around to score two batters later on a wild pitch. Bourdeau would smack a single to center field, to score M. Heizer and then
Rianna Laughridge would score later in the inning on a single by Celestine Alfaro to make the score 3-0.
The Dolphins started the top of the third inning with four straight singles, which led to two runs. Laughridge would hit a sacrifice fly to score M. Heizer to make the score 6-0 midway through the third inning.
Albertus Magnus scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the third but CMSV would answer, adding one more run in the fourth on an RBI single by M. Heizer.
In the seventh, the Dolphins added two more insurance runs on a two-run single to right field by
Abigail Weaver to make the score 9-2.
Albertus Magnus 7 CMSV 2 - Game 2In game two, Albertus Magnus starting pitcher M. Ferraro held the Dolphins to only six hits en route to surrendering only two runs (one earned).
CMSV started off the game taking advantage of sloppy defense by the Falcons. Leadoff batter
Samantha Broo reached on an E6 and would come around to score two batters later on a throwing error by the right fielder on a single by R. Heizer.
Albertus Magnus would answer the Dolphins first inning by scoring four runs of their own.
Ferraro was effective after the first inning limiting the Dolphins to just one more run, which came in the fourth inning.
Joann Guerra led off with a single and then scored when Bourdeau singled to right to cut the lead to 7-2.
The Dolphins return to action Thursday March 31 when they will take on Baruch College in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30pm & 5:30pm.
