FORT MYERS, FL - The CMSV softball team wrapped up play at the 2016 Gene Cusic Softball Classic on Thursday morning, taking on St. Olaf College & The College of Wooster.
The Dolphins dropped both games, falling 8-2 to St. Olaf & 8-6 to the College of Wooster.
St. Olaf 8 CMSV 2CMSV only managed four hits off of St. Olaf pitching in game 1. The team got in a hole early after surrendering two unearned runs in the 1st inning and then two more earned runs in the 3rd.
In the 4th, the Dolphins got two runs back thanks to a two-run homerun by
Rachel Heizer, which scored
Kathryn Dalton to make the score 4-2. Later that inning the Dolphins struck out with the bases loaded and two outs to squash their hopes of more runs.
St. Olaf would score three more runs in the 5th and then push across one more in the 6th to take an 8-2 lead.
The College of Wooster 8 CMSV 6 The Dolphins fell behind early in the game allowing six runs in the first two innings off of
Mackenzie Heizer, who would settle down and pitch all seven innings.
CMSV started their comeback effort in the 3rd inning as they scored four runs.
Katie Moos scored on a defensive error to start the barrage. Deana Nardi would drive home M. Heizer with an RBI single to right field to make it 6-2. Rianna Laughrudge would smash a 2-run double to left scoring Nardi and
Joann Guerra.
Wooster added two more runs, one in the 5th and 7th, making the score 8-4 with the Dolphins coming up for their last turn at-bat.
In the bottom of the 7th, Moos led off with a single, then advanced to second on an infield single by Dalton. R. Heizer would load the bases after single to shallow left field and her sister Mackezie would drive in two runs with a single to make the score 8-6. CMSV would leave the bases loaded once again to end the game.
The Dolphins return north today and will return to the field Monday when they will take on Albertus Magnus College in a doubleheader.
