NAPLES, FL - The CMSV softball team opened up play at the 2016 Gene Cusic Softball Classic Tuesday afternoon taking on Manchester University and The College of Wooster.
Manchester University 12 CMSV 1CMSV managed only five hits off of Manchester starter Anna Schillinger who controlled the Dolphins offense.
The Spartans took advantage of Dolphins starter
Mackenzie Heizer who issued seven walks and tossed four wild pitches en route to giving up eight runs and nine hits.
Trailing 8-0 in the bottom of the 5th, the Dolphins were able scratch across a run on an RBI groundout by
Katie Moos, which scored pinch-runner Celestine Alfaro, pushing the game to the 6th inning.
In the 6th, Manchester scored four unearned runs off of
Kathryn Dalton who came in to relieve M. Heizer to start the 5th inning.
The College of Wooster 6 CMSV 4In the Dolphins second game of the day, they started off scoring in the top-of the 1st inning when
Samantha Broo led off the game with a double and later came around to score on an RBI groundout by Dalton.
Wooster broke through against CMSV starter,
Kathryn Dalton who gave up five earned runs in the bottom of the 4th.
CMSV would score one run in the 5th inning and then two more in the 5th to cut the lead to 5-4 but in the bottom of the 6th, Wooster scored an unearned insurance run to make the score 6-4.
The Dolphins return to action Wednesday at 3pm against St. Olaf College and 7pm against Florida SouthWest College.
