PATCHOGUE, NY - The CMSV women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon with a 61-54 victory over St. Joseph's - Long Island. The win puts the Dolphins at 13-8 overall and 10-3 in Skyline Conference play with four conference games remaining.
Brittany Carroll led the offense going 3-for-6 from 3-point land, marking the sixth straight game the junior guard has made multiple three's in a game.
Christina Barone filled the stat sheet once again tallying 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while
Allison Clarke added 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
The Dolphins started off the game scoring eight of the first 10 points to take an 8-2 lead after a fast break conversion by Barone. The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with CMSV taking a 16-15 lead to end the quarter on a
Kelly Nola jumper to beat the buzzer.
In the second quarter CMSV took control of the game with great defense and great shooting. The Dolphins held the Golden Eagles to 3-of-12 shooting from the field while forcing seven turnovers as they outscored their opponents 20-7 in the period. On the offensive end the Dolphins shot 8-of-14, including 3-of-4 from 3-point land to take a 36-22 lead into halftime.
CMSV maintained a double-digit lead for the first 3+ minutes of the third quarter as St. Joe's would halve the lead after two made free throws with 6:08 left in the quarter. The Dolphins would get their lead back up to 14 points with 1:36 remaining and would take their largest lead of the game into the fourth quarter after
Morgan Dewberry made her first career 3-pointer with 0:07 remaining to put her team up 16 points.
The Dolphins were never threatened in the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles were only able to pull within five points twice. Each time the score got that close CMSV responded with a points of their own. Carroll iced the game with a 3-pointer to put the Dolphins up 59-49 with 2:09 to go.
