Box Score 2 RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV men's volleyball team earned their fist victory of the season on Saturday afternoon in the first match of a non-conference tri-match. The Dolphins swept Cairn University 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 25-20) to improve to 1-7. In the team's second match, they were swept by Emmanuel College 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 13-25).
Against Cairn, the Dolphins totaled 39 kills, while hitting .258%. They were led by
Tyler Cucullu's game-high 14 kills, followed by
Jordan Steiger who tallied 10 kills.
Neven Skoblar was on point with his serve's, totaling four service aces in the match.
Logan Dickover added 29 assists to propel the Dolphin's attack.
After winning the first set 28-26, the pivotal second set was won by the Dolphins 28-26 as well. Much of the set was close with neither team leading by more than two points. CMSV seemed to take control of the set when they took a 24-22 lead after a Skoblar ace. The Highlanders responded winning the next three points to take a 25-24 lead, CMSV would win four of the next five points and win the set on a kill by Cucullu.
The third set began as a back and forth affair but the Dolphins would take a three point lead at 18-15 after an attack error by the Highlanders. Skoblar would smash a kill to give his team a 23-19 lead and then another attack error by Cairn put the Dolphins one point away from victory, which would come two points later after a Cairn service error.
Against Emmanuel, who went 2-0 during the tri-match, the Dolphins struggled with the Saints strong net play and had their own attack stifled as CMSV totaled only 21 kills while hitting .145%. Cucullu added another 10 kills and Dickover added 18 more assists.
