PATCHOGUE, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team dropped their fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon, falling 74-70, in overtime, to Skyline foe St. Joseph's-Long Island. The loss drops the Dolphins to 8-13 overall and 7-9 in conference play with four games left in the regular season.
Jamir Ferebee led three Dolphins in double-figures with 26 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists, playing in all 45 minutes.
Andrew Curiel tallied his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds,
Trevor Johnson came off the bench to add 10 points.
Early on in the first half, both teams traded baskets with neither team taking a lead larger than three points for the first nine minutes of the game. Ferebee would make two free throws to give the Dolphins a 10-9 lead with 13:25 to go in the half but over the next eight minutes the Golden Eagles would go on a 19-6 run to take a 12 point lead.
CMSV would cut the lead down to four points with 0:55 remaining after Ferebee converted on the fast break, St. Joe's would add a jumper on their next possession and take a 36-30 lead into halftime.
Curiel opened the scoring in the second half nailing a 3-pointer on the Dolphins first possession, CMSV would go on a mini 5-0 run thanks to Ferebee and Johnson to tie the game at 38 with 16:03 remaining.
A 14-6 run by the Golden Eagles would put them ahead 57-47 with 6:31 to go but the Dolphins would not cave going on a 14-4 run over the next four minutes capped off by a 3-pointer by Ferebee to tie the game at 61 with 2:30 left. Each team made one field goal each over the final 2:30 and the teams would head into overtime tied at 63 apiece.
In OT, Curiel once again go the Dolphins first bucket to give his team a 65-63 lead 0:45 into the extra period. After a bucket by the Golden Eagles tied the game up on their next possession, Ferebee struck again drilling a 3-pointer to give CMSV a 68-65 lead with 3:24 to go. The Dolphins would only make one field goal down the stretch, while St. Joe's would go 5-for-5 from the free throw line to secure a 73-70 victory.
