FARMINGDALE, NY - The CMSV women's basketball team took on Farmingdale State in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon and defeated the Rams 79-62, clinching the #2 seed and first round bye in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championships.
Kristen Merrell led the Dolphins on offense with 16 points, while
Christina Barone added 10 points and eight assists and
Theresa Carey scoring 10.
Brittany Carroll made 3-of-4 from 3-point land en route to 13 points.
CMSV controlled the game early with Carey scoring all 10 of her points in the quarter allowing the Dolphins to hold a 21-12 lead at the end of 10 minutes of play.
Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the second quarter but the Rams would hold the Dolphins scoreless over the final 2:33 of the half and go into halftime tied at 36.
CMSV held the Rams to one made field goal in the quarter and would push their lead to as much as 13 points late in the period after a Barone layup made the score 53-40.
The hot shooting continued for the Dolphins in the fourth as they shot 10-of-13 from the field. Late in the fourth, CMSV would increase their lead to 20 points after a Carroll jumper made it 76-56.
With this victory and a victory by Sage, the 2015-16 CMSV Women's Basketball team enter the Skyline Tournament as the #2 seed and secured a first round bye.
The Dolphins will play on Thursday February 25th, vs. the winner of the #3 Old Westbury vs. #6 St. Joseph's-Brooklyn match at 7pm.
