Dolphins Win 7th In A Row With 60-56 Win Over Old Westbury

Theresa Carey Leads The Way With 13 Points

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV women's basketball team won their 7th in a row on Saturday afternoon with a 60-56 win over SUNY Old Westbury to improve to 16-8 overall and 12-3 in Skyline play.

Theresa Carey led the way for the Dolphins with 13 points, while Kelly Nola and Kelly Oliver each scored 11 points. Kristen Merrell led the team with 10 rebounds, while Christina Barone added five assists.

The game started off a bit sloppy with both teams turning the ball over five times each in first five minutes of the game. CMSV opened up the scoring on a jumper by Allison Clarke and Carey would hit a 3-pointer on the Dolphins next possession to give her team a 5-0 lead. CMSV would make one more basket and trail 15-7 at the end of the first quarter.

CMSV caught fire from three point land in the second quarter going 4-for-7 including K. Oliver, who made both of her attempts from distance. Despite the hot shooting the Dolphins still trailed 29-25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Dolphins scored the first five points to take a 30-29 lead. The teams traded baskets for the duration of the period but a N. Oliver layup with 1:22 left gave the Dolphins a 43-42 lead and they would hold a 45-44 lead at the end of three periods of play.

In the fourth quarter the Dolphins fell down by four with 6:42 left to go. Carey would get her team to within two at 53-51 with 3:25 remaining and on the Dolphins next possession Nola made both free throws to tie the game at 53. Nola would score again to give the lead back to the Dolphins with 1:37 to go.

Down the stretch, the Dolphins made five of seven from the free throw line to secure a 60-56 win.

The Dolphins close out the regular season Saturday February 20 when they will travel to take on Farmingdale State at 12pm.
