RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team hosted SUNY Old Westbury Saturday afternoon, falling 70-59 to the Panthers. The loss drops the Dolphins to 8-15 overall and 7-11 in Skyline play.
Jamir Ferebee tallied his 5th double double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Dolphins.
Jose Maestre, making his second consecutive start added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists, while
Matthew Sowah added 11 points before fouling out late in the second half.
Early on in the first half, CMSV couldn't get anything going as they got down by 10 less than 10 minutes into the game. Old Westbury pushed their lead to as much as 13 points with 3:15 left in the half. The Panthers would take a 35-24 lead into halftime as the Dolphins only managed to make seven field goals over the first 20 minutes of play.
The Dolphins started off the second half on fire and trimmed the 11 points halftime deficit all the way down to one with a little over four minutes into the after back-to-back three's by Ferebee and Maestre forced a Panthers timeout.
After the timeout Ferebee tipped in an
Andrew Curiel miss to give the Dolphins their first lead of the game at 38-37.
Old Westbury responded to take back the lead at 46-40 but Maestre and Ferebee struck again with three's to tie the game at 46. The Panthers answered back going on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 58-46 lead.
CMSV would get to within seven points late in the game after two made free throws by
Trevor Johnson but the poor shooting doomed the Dolphins.
The team returns to action Wednesday February 17 when they will take on Sarah Lawrence College at 7pm.
