Dolphins Drop Skyline Opener To Old Westbury

Barone & Doherty Lead CMSV

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's Basketball team returned to action Thursday night, hosting Skyline Conference rival SUNY Old Westbury, in a rematch of last seasons semifinal matchup. The Panthers held the Dolphins to just 32% shooting from the field, to win 69-54, dropping CMSV to 1-4 on the season.

Christina Barone continued her quest to the 1,000 career point mark, as the senior guard poured in 17 points, while Ryan Doherty added 12 points. Both players made four shots from long distance. Barone now sits at 970 career points.

The first quarter went back and forth early on but the Dolphins pulled ahead for the first time on a Barone 3-pointer with 5:33 left in the quarter to give her team an 11-9 lead. On the Dolphins next possession, Kelly Oliver nailed a jumper to push the lead to four points, which would be the largest lead the Dolphins would have all night.

Old Westbury closed out the quarter on an 11-3 run, to take a 21-16 lead at the end of 10 minutes of play.

CMSV struggled to find any rhythm in the second quarter, as they shot only 2-of-16 from the floor, as they wound up being outscored 23-9 in the quarter and went into halftime trailing 44-25.

The third quarter was the exact opposite of the second, as the Dolphins shot 50% from 3-point land and would fight all the way back from a 19 point halftime deficit to take a one point lead with 42 seconds left in the period. Doherty and Barone were on fire from 3-point land with Doherty shooting 3-of-4 and Barone netting 2-of-3. A late 3-pointer by the Panthers would give the visitors a two point lead heading to the final quarter.

The final quarter wasn't kind to the Dolphins as they only managed to make one field goal, while turning it over eight times.
