RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's basketball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting New York University in a non-conference matchup, for the Dolphins 2016 season opener. The Violets forced 42 CMSV turnovers and earned a 71-54 victory, dropping the Dolphins to 1-3 on the season.
Ryan Doherty led the Dolphins with 19 points, on 7-of-16 shooting, while
Brittany Carroll added 11 points. Carroll now sits just 44 points away from 1,000 for her career.
Kristen Merrell led the team grabbing 10 rebounds, a season high.
NYU's pressure defense forced CMSV into committed 20 turnovers in the first half. The Dolphins shot 42% from the field in the first half but were unable to match the offensive output of the visitors, as they attempted 11 less shots over the first 20 minutes of action.
The Violets pressure continued into the second half, not only forcing turnovers but holding the Dolphins to just 36% shooting from the field.
Carroll scored all of her 11 points in the second half, including making two of the Dolphins three, three-pointers over the final 20 minutes of play.
