BRONXVILLE, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team returned to action Saturday afternoon, taking on Skyline Conference foe USMMA. The Mariners swept the Dolphins 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 24-26) dropping the Mount to 10-16 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
USMMA took control of the first set right away, jumping out to an early 12-3 lead and for the set would out-hit CMSV .250% to .091&% and almost doubling their number of kills. The Dolphins did show some fight late in the first set, winning six straight points cutting a 19-10 lead to 19-16.
Tara Maloney chipped in with 2 of her team-high 13 kills during the run but the home side would close out the set with back-to-back kills.
The Dolphins were limited in their attacking attempts in the second set, as USMMA hit .314% and smashed 16 kills compared to just four by CMSV.
Showing some fight, the Dolphins took an early lead in the third set, taking an early 6-2 lead, which they would extend to 10-4 thanks to attacks from Maloney and pin-point serving by
Patsy Sewell.
The Dolphins continued to lead late into the set and were just four point from a set victory when they took a 21-17 lead but the Mariners would close out the match winning nine of the final 12 points.
