RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV women's basketball team defeated Skyline Conference foe Farmingdale State 92-73 on Saturday afternoon improving to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
Junior
Christina Barone led the Dolphins as she nearly notched a triple double, tallying 15 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds, Barone was perfect from 3-point land going 5-for-5.
Kristen Merrell chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Brittany Carroll added 14 points and
Theresa Carey tallied her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a team high 12 rebounds.
CMSV controlled the game from start, as they never trailed for the entire 40 minutes. The Dolphins jumped out to an early 10-1 lead just over four minutes into the game and they would continue to increase their lead throughout the remainder of the quarter, holding the Rams to one field goal over the first 10 minutes. The Dolphins shot 8-of-19 in the first quarter taking a 21-4 lead after one.
In the 2nd quarter, CMSV continued to have the touch on the offensive end, a
Kelly Nola jumper with 6:57 left til halftime gave the Dolphins a 27-7 lead gave them their largest lead of the first half. The team would take a 42-27 lead into halftime.
The Rams would come out in the third quarter and cut the Dolphins lead to 48-39 with 6:34 left in the quarter but that would be as close as they would get. CMSV responded by going on a 12-2 run to reestablish control and never look back.
The Dolphins had tremendous offensive rhythm going in the second half as the team shot a torrid 21-of-30 (70%) from the field. For the game CMSV dished out 29 assists on 37 made field goals.
The team returns to action Monday night at 5pm against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a key Skyline Conference matchup.
