RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team took on SUNY Maritime on Tuesday night, falling to the Privateers 79-77 in overtime. The loss puts the Dolphins at 8-10 overall and 7-6 in Skyline play.
Jamir Ferebee led four Dolphins in double figures with 16 points, the sophomore guard also grabbed 10 rebounds to notch his 3rd double-double of the season.l
Matthew Sowah chipped in with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, while
Andrew Curiel and Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week
Trevor Johnson, each scored 12 points.
Jesse Regina added eight points and seven assists.
CMSV controlled the game from the start, taking a 10-3 lead after a Sowah jumper with just over five minutes gone by. The Dolphins continued to build their lead with efficient shooting and effective defense, holding the Privateers to 33% shooting from the field in the first half.
With 3:18 left in the half, Maritime buried a 3-pointer to cut the Dolphins lead to three at 25-22 but CMSV would close the half out on a 12-5 run, capped off by a 3-pointer by Curiel, to give his team a 37-27 lead at the break.
Early on in the second half, the Dolphins continued to shoot well on the offensive end. Sowah put together a personal 8-0 in a two minute spurt to give CMSV their largest lead of the game at 48-31.
Over the course of the next 10 minutes, the Dolphins continued to hold a double digit lead but after Maritime cut the lead to 62-55 with 5:31 remaining, Curiel would make a layup and Mike Mullian would go 1-for-2 from the FT line to get the lead back to 10 with 4:38 left.
Another Curiel jumper would make the score 67-59 with 3:45 left, but over the next few minutes, the Privateers would go on an 11-0 run highlighted by back-to-back three pointers to take a 69-67 led with 0:56 remaining.
After a miss on the next CMSV possession, the Dolphins fouled Michael Walker, who made only one giving his team a 70-67 lead with 0:26 left.
On the Dolphins possession Regina nailed a wing three to tie the game at 70 with 0:17 left to force overtime.
In overtime the Dolphins were done in by Privateers big man Patrick McDonald who scored four of his teams nine points, including a clutch jumper with 1:43 left to give his team a 78-77 lead which they would hold on to.
