NEWBURGH, NY - The CMSV women's basketball team won their second straight game on Wednesday night with a 54-47 win over Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary's, improving the Dolphins record to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
CMSV came out determined on the defensive end and efficient on the offensive end in the first quarter, holding the Knights to 2-of-12 shooting from the field. On the offensive side of the ball, the Dolphins shot 8-of-14, including 3-of-5 from 3-point land over the first 10 minutes of pla.
Brittany Carroll led CMSV scoring 11 of her team-high 13 points in the first two quarters combined.
Christina Barone stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Starting the third quarter, MSMC cut the Dolphins halftime lead down to six points less than four minutes into play but over the next five minutes of play, the Dolphins got the lead back to nine points after a layup by Carroll made the score 37-28. The Knights would end the quarter on a 6-0 run, led by Jessica Rini, who poured in a game high 23 points on the night.
Rini would start the fourth quarter with back-to-back lay-ups to give the Knights their only lead of the game at 38-37 with 7:33 left in the game. Down the stretch, Barone would lead her team to victory as she would score eight of her 10 points in the final quarter and set up
Gabriella Melgar for a key 3-pointer with less than a minute left in the game.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday afternoon when they will travel to Brooklyn to take on St. Joseph's College at 4pm.
